Deafness is isolating even more so than blindness. When you are blind, you lose touch with things, but when you are deaf you lose touch with people.
Aneela Zaman, a 19-year-old with a happy go lucky attitude, is a resident of Lajna Chowk, Township. She lives with her 2 sisters and 2 brothers and her father is a laborer.
Sounds normal enough? Except that Aneela is unable to hear the laughter of her siblings or hear her parents call her name!
She was a healthy child till the age of 4 when she was struck by heavy fever resulting in deafness in both ears. Now she is 19 years old and the doctors have suggested that she needs hearing aid. However, her parents cannot afford to buy her any as a pair costs Rs. 22,000. At Marghzar Welfare Society, there are many more children like Aneela Zaman whose senses are severely damaged. So far, we have provided 46 hearing aids to these children, but 20 more hearing aids are needed for the special children.
